Sean McCann (MI-04)

Red to Blue

Sean McCann is a former nonprofit leader, city commissioner, state representative, state senator, and Democratic candidate running for Congress in Michigan's 4th Congressional District. A graduate of Western Michigan University, McCann served ten years on the Kalamazoo City Commission before being elected to the Michigan House in 2010 and later the Michigan State Senate, where he has represented the Kalamazoo area since 2019. Before entering politics, he served as executive director of Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation, director of financial development at the American Red Cross, and executive director of the Vine Neighborhood Association.

MI-04 covers a swath of southwest Michigan's lakeshore and is currently held by eight-term Republican Bill Huizenga. McCann faces a Democratic primary on August 4 before a general election matchup with Huizenga in November. Flipping MI-04 is essential to winning back a Democratic House majority in 2026.
