Johnny Garcia is a law enforcement officer and Democratic nominee running for Congress in Texas' 35th Congressional District. Born and raised on the West Side of San Antonio by a hardworking single mother, Garcia worked construction jobs to put himself through St. Philip's College before spending nearly two decades serving Bexar County as a deputy, SWAT hostage negotiator, and Public Information Officer for the Sheriff's Office.

Garcia won the Democratic primary runoff with 64% of the vote and now faces Republican nominee Carlos De La Cruz in November. Cook Political rates TX-35 as Republican-leaning — the district was heavily redrawn in Texas' mid-decade redistricting push — but Democrats argue the political environment has shifted since the map was drawn. TX-35 is a must-win seat for a Democratic House majority in 2026.
