Cait Conley is a decorated Army veteran, national security expert, and Democratic nominee running for Congress in New York's 17th Congressional District. A fourth-generation Hudson Valley native and the daughter of a postal worker and a construction worker, Conley became the first in her family to graduate from college when she earned her degree from West Point — graduating in the top 2% of her class — before going on to earn master's degrees from Harvard and MIT. She served 16 years in the U.S. Army with six overseas deployments, including combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, earning three Bronze Stars. After leaving active duty, she served as Director of Counterterrorism on the National Security Council and at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency under President Biden.  

NY-17 is a prime flip opportunity — the district includes Northern Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, and part of Dutchess County and is held by Republican incumbent Mike Lawler, who won by just over one point in 2022. Conley won the competitive Democratic primary on June 23 to set up a high-stakes general election matchup with Lawler in November. Flipping NY-17 is essential to winning back a Democratic House majority in 2026.
