Amish Shah (AZ-01)

Red to Blue

Dr. Amish Shah is an emergency medicine physician, former Arizona state representative, and Democratic nominee running for Congress in Arizona's 1st Congressional District. Born in Chicago to Gujarati immigrants, Shah earned his B.A. and M.D. from Northwestern University and a Master of Public Health from UC Berkeley, before building a career as an emergency physician with Mayo Clinic, Dignity Health, and the New York Jets. He served three terms in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2019 to 2024, working across the aisle on public safety, healthcare, and tribal infrastructure funding.

Shah was the Democratic nominee in AZ-01 in 2024, losing to Republican incumbent David Schweikert by just four points. Schweikert is not seeking reelection, choosing instead to run for governor, making AZ-01 an open seat and one of the most closely watched races of the cycle. Shah will face Republican nominee Jay Feely, an NFL kicker turned Trump-backed candidate, in November. Flipping AZ-01 is essential to winning back a Democratic House majority in 2026.
